Are there any types of toothpaste that work better on masks to reduce fogging over others? Are there any types of toothpaste to avoid or ingredients to avoid?

Thanks.

I use toothpaste to clear the residue off of new lenses. Usually I do 2-3 Cycles of scrub lenses and rinse. I use a separate defogger during the dive though.

There was a recent thread taking about this with a link to the lighter method as well.

Use normal, white toothpaste like Colgate original.

Toothpaste is mildly abrasive which helps remove the release agent used in the molding process. Cleaning a few times and rinsing will ensure that this release agent is removed, and that's what minimizes fogging. No particular ingredient reduces defogging, just the mild abrasion.

HOWEVER, anything with minty flakes, or anything that sparkles, I'd avoid. I don't have any experience with gel toothpastes, but logic tells me they would work.

I keep a trial size tube of Colgate in my spare parts box. Comes in handy more than you'd think and only costs $1 at CVS.

You might want to try this method. It is very fast...
