The nitrox air mattress…

Ok, so we’re moving to another town. Most of our stuff is already in storage in the new town, including our comfy king size mattress. When packing, I made sure to leave my trusty bicycle pump to inflate the air mattress we’ll be sleeping on. As I stepped into the garage to fetch the bicycle pump, I see my two scuba tanks.

The wheels start turning…and I remember that I had over a thousand pounds left after my last dive. Naturally, being a male, I decide that using my left over nitrox would be much more fun than spending a half hour stroking away on a bicycle pump. Turns out I was right. It was pretty darn cool how fast it inflated. So much so that I let it deflate just so I could fill it up again to show my wife.

Any other successful scuba adaptations? Any attempts gone awry?

Power outage (their fairly frequent here) at night ....
Fill a 5 gal. bucket with water, turn on my Light Cannon and drop it in the bucket pointed at the cieling ... actually lit the room better than the floor lamps do. :)

I showered and read a book when hurricane Isabel was coming through Virginia last year. Same deal. When no other lights are available, that's what dive lights are for! Of course it is a challenge to position the light where it's effective for reading and doesn't blind you.

Used nitrox for my tyres. I woke up in the morning and found out that somebody made a stupid joke. All I had was a tank with nitrox, so I used it

Clean dry air for cleaning computers and other electronics.

I bought a regulator that has an adjustable output of 5-40 psi. I put a universal BC inflator connector on the input and a 'shop air' fitting on the output.

When I need clean, dry, low pressure air I just put a first stage on my tank, plug in my regulator and hook up an air gun.

This saves me the noise and hassel of starting up the big compressor and lets me use just enough air to clean and dry without blasting things apart.

Scared the crap out of my cat. :05:

SCUBA demonstration to a 1st / 2nd grade class. & a slide show. For thanks I received some really great drawings of Christmas tree worms and fish!

Also, not so cool but useful. Inflating a flat tire.

When my house caught on fire, I threatened to put on my tanks and regs and go back into the house to get my dog!!! The firemen looked at me very strangely and had a good laugh and moved me aside. It was an empty threat.
