Dear All,

I am an advance diver who want to take diving to professional level so within this year I am planning to spend sometime to get certified to become a dive master or instructor. So it is time i decide i should invest in my own equipment. So far i have a rough idea of either Aqua Lung or Mares for the brand and for the choice of regulator i am planning to get is the Mares Proton 42 Metal, Mares Abyss 42, Mares Abyss 22, or the Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme (ACD). I dont know much about equipments and brand but my main concern is that it is a regulator which will be comfortable to use everyday consecutively for many months. My price range is between 300 to 400 Euros as I plan to buy online from Home*-*Lucas Divestore

I am planning to dive nitrox in the future and most of my dive are in warm water (Phuket Thailand). Also since most of my dive are in Asia would a YORK be better than a DIN?

Can someone please share their great wisdom and any other brand recommendation?

Thanks,
trag

Welcome to the board.
I have a couple of suggestions for you. First, if your profile is correct (0-24 dives) you really need to get in some diving in varied conditions before considering DM. I know there are places that will take you from 0 to hero in a couple of weeks but nothing can give you the experience you really need like lots of dives in varied conditions. Holding an AOW card does not make you an advanced diver....you just passes a couple of fairly simple skills and did a couple of slightly more "advanced" dives but your skills are not "advanced". IMO, DMs and instructors should possess near perfect bouyancy skills...sadly many do not. You will also need to complete rescue and have more logged dives before you can start DM much less instructor. Give it some time and just dive for a while.

As for regs..and your other equipment for that matter, most shops require you to dive their brand so unless you already know where you intend to DM then what brand of reg you buy is strickly a matter of presonal choice, most any of the major brands will do fine.

Consider if the reg you get can be serviced in the area you will be living. It is good to see your enthusiasm-:)

If you dive in thailand, all the shops I went to had yokes, most all the instructors and DM there had yoke reg. If you get a din reg, just spend the extra 30 euro for a din to yoke adopter, that way you will have a setup that will fit both din and yoke.

The mares are really good regs, you will not go wrong with any of the mares you mention. My personally I like the proton v42 out of the ones you listed most. Almost every shop sells mares, at least their fins. So they are a safer bet in thailand and SE Asia.

Zealge DSV or Scubapro MK17. Both are great regs. If you can buy DIN regs and a Yoke adapter... it's easier to go from DIN to Yoke than from Yoke to DIN.

I hated my din to yoke clamp adapter so much I bought a separate Yoke first stage. I can't stand that the clamp moves the reg closer to the back of my head. YMMV.

Edit: While I could convert the first stage din to yoke but then I wouldn't have the din connection when I needed it.

I seen some that have a shorter barrel then the on you got. But I agree, some do not like the way the adopter moves the 1st stage closer to ones head. But it was just a option the OP may want to look into.
