Skipper, you'll go nuts focusing on brands. As Fireflock pointed out, each of the sucessful brands has it's own crowd of loyal dealers and customers. Basically at any given pricepoint you'll get a narrow range of performance brand to brand.

Focus on features: balanced first stage, balance or adjustability of the second stage, environmentally sealed for cold water, cost of maintainance, convenience of dealer or service center, or anything you feel is important to you. From what's out there you'll find a bunch that make the short list, and from those make a decision, trying to get the best value for your needs and budget.

It's obvious N does't realize that the more you pay for your equipment the better it is:D

Yes. More expensive is better. Always, always, always. It is like buying an airline ticket. A first-class ticket to Boston costs $800, business class is $400, and economy is $200. If under a rare circumstance the plane hits a mountain, the first-class passenger is four times safer than the economy guy.

I cant help but want to respond to your comment Stu - more expensive - is NOT always better ! have you ever flown first class and only paid half as much for your seat as the person next to you did ? I have, same service - half the price. more expensive would not have been better !
I will defer to your diving experience and skills - i can openly admit - i know nothing in comparison , you have all my respect there - but more expensive doesnt define quality - and ...i'm having a hard time buying into being 4 times safer than anyone in a plane crash based on where you're seated - how do you figure that one ? ;)
now - if you had intended sarcasm - it went over my head - and the jokes on me !
cheers-
Marc

Sorry, buddy... I was being a wise guy. I still have my first regultor that cost me $52 in 1977. I don't use it much now, but it still works.

Me and my pals joke about the time a local dive shop owner tried to talk me into buying this super-expensive Atomic regulator for my daughter who was getting certified. He tried to make the case that spending a lot meant I'm a more responsible father. "It's all about safety, and she's your daughter". I went home and ordered her an Oceanic Alpha 7, from Leisure Pro, just like mine.

Your pal / Stu.

Exactly.. Great anaolgy stu.. that explains my thinking perfectly in a totaly different situation. The first class passengers get the opportunity to die instantly.... while the lowly economy passenger has to hear al the screaming and crunching metal right before they die:D

I know that you are just funning me so I will not fall for your attempt to distract ;).

Exactly and in particular in regard to scuba equipment, more money rarely gets anything more than a thinnner wallet and a bigger ego. :rofl3: Cuz, cousin, the Titan LX can hold it's own against just about anything and dollar for dollar it smokes them and it's simple and time proven design and utter reliability shames them.

BTW, Leisure Pro had or still has the Legend on sale as well for about 20 dollars more.

Anybody got a Conshelf XIV for sale?
Now that's a reg!:D

Good call N ... I have been known to distract people. ohh and your right about the thinner wallet and bigger ego thing.
