@wetb4igetinthewater apeks was the first to come up with the dry sealed diaphragm design and popularized it. the deep 6 has enhancements but fundamentally is not that different.
So every reg with a dry sealed diagram is a copy of Apeks?

Well, this thread has gone south in a hurry. Getting back to the original question "What do you get when you spend the extra money?" The short answer is you get a more expensive regulator.

Is it 'better'? Sure, someone could easily come up with reasons that it's better.
Is it safer? No.
Is it more reliable? Probably not, but that depends. Simple regulators that have barely changed in decades of use have proven to be extremely reliable. Most top-end regulators sold by the premium companies are also extremely reliable.

Probably the most practical thing about any regulator is, can it be serviced easily and conveniently where you live and dive? If it can, you'll use it successfully for years and years. If not, you'll end up getting one that can.

One important thing to remember is that there is a LOT of hype around regulator sales, and most of it is sales-driven. These are simple devices that do a simple task; reduce air pressure in the tank to ambient pressure so you can easily breathe it.

Single Tank Packages - Regulator Packages - Regulators

They offer two packages at $540 and $660 respectively.
Made in FREE China(Taiwan) so you won't find them in aliexpress!!!! LOL

Any main stream brands would cost a lot more.
Well, actually here in Italy we can buy a complete Scubapro top-notch set for less than 500 Eur.
MK17 + G260 + R195 + SPG + BCD hose + bag.
All built here in Scubapro Italy factory, at Casarza Ligure, near Genoa:

I’m thinking if we are using the car as an analogy, less expensive cars versus more expensive cars. They all meet safety requirements they’re going to get you from point a to point b, However the more expensive car is just going to be a better ride. For example the atomic T3 very expensive but when you’re underwater you know you’re breathing on something special.

Guy who started Deep 6 came from HOG, designed both. Both are made in the same factory in Taiwan.
By that logic, the Chrysler K Car is a clone of the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang.

The guy who designed the Chrysler K Car (Lee Iaccoca) came from Ford where he designed the original Mustang. The cars were not however made in the same factory.

Location and location.
Well USA is NOT Italy and I believe the OP is from USA.
Perhaps the Americans should ask why SP is so expensive in USA!

Apeks DS4 + XTX50 is around £330.00 = US$420.00 in UK
In USA it is about $ 630.00 from Leisurepro.
USA is NOT UK.
No reason to compare the price in two different countries for the same item.

I believe there is huge discrepancy for the same item between Canada and USA(next door neighbour).

This would be the difference here.

Canadian Dollar equals
