I'm a Fish!
Just just out of Navy after 22 Yrs and Looking to get back into Wreck and Tech again . I'm 5'10" 175lbs Back measurement on bench to T1 is 27" . Was looking at Dbl Worthington LP108's or 95's what would be a good choice? Also someone suggested LP85's . I also sling a 40cu as stage. Regards

Bigger is better. You did not say high or low preasure I dive Faber 133 backmount high pres. I have 85 low Fabers and 77 low worthington. I swear my worthingtons are heavier, (seem heavier) than the faber 133. You won't regret having more air

Actually, it is in the title. The OP is interested in LP cylinders.

Bigger is better.

Not really, in fact rarely true. One is better off having cylinders that meet the requirement for the dive at hand. That said most of us do not have the ability to have quiver full of different sets of cylinders so we typically have a set that meets most of our needs and if needed sling a stage.

For instance, if the majority of your dives are going to be in the Lakes then they are going to be cold dives. Thus you are probably not going to be planning dives that last more than 90 minutes including deco. Many people can do that on LP85s. However, if a dive or two requires a bit more gas then as noted sling a stage. Nothing wrong with that.

If you find or think that you are using a stage most often than not then sure go bigger.

Also consider your weighting needs. LP cylinders and not as negatively buoyant as HP cylinders. If I used doubled HP cylinders I would go down like a bloody led Zeppelin. So for me LP cylinders were the way to go.

I love my HP100s! Excellent capacity for two dives, not too heavy to climb back aboard, and they trim out nice. I also own HP130s and LP104s both sets are heavy and awkward out of the water and I doubt that too many dive boat ops will be thrilled with you bringing two sets of doubles for a two tank splash. The LP85s are the about the same(ish) physical size and weight as the HP100s and they hold 30 more cf of breathing gas. One big problem you will run into up here is finding a shop to give you fills to anything other than rated pressure. so your LP108s will weigh a ton and only hold slightly more than a set of HP100s this will be very important when climbing back onto the boat. Down in cave country your LP108s can magically hold 310 CF of breathing gas :idk: or would it be :D anyway YMMV!
