I'm in the market for a good reg. I like the Poseidon Odin/Jetstram. I don't service my own regs. I'm looking for a high qualit reg that breathes easy, even at depth. And I'm looking for one that won't need alot of maintenance. What do the experts on this board think?

Most regs are pretty easy breathing and maintainance free (as long as you are careful with them) these days.

I like (and own) Apeks. A lot of people here like Scubapro. Oceanic get good reviews for breathing.

I'm not an expert, but I owe a Jetstream since two years now and I'm totally satisfied. Breath in a particular but effective way, some people don't like it for this. If you dive in chilly water it could send small pieces of ice in your mouth, but since I dive it with a long hose doesn't happend anymore.
A friend of mine has one since 12 years, 1000+ dives in salt water and is still perfect.

You're gonna get more different opinions on this than you can possibly imagine. Most all of the top of the line regs should do you fine. I prefer Apeks but that is my choice. If you go with ScubaPro, I prefer their MK25 line. They (SP) seems to be pushing their MK16 right now because it is their newest entry into the diaphram market. It is a little less expensive but their forte' has been piston regs and they are darn good with them. Whatever you decide to go with just ask yourself one question. If this breaks on my dive trip, can I get it serviced anywhere I am.

This is a very good point that I foolishly forgot to think about. Originally I wanted to post a poll but I screwed it up. I am interested in Apex, Poseidon, and Scubapro. Are these all easily fixed throughtout the world? And at dive resorts?

I think alot of places would shudder over the Poseidon. Scubapro would probably be number one, Apeks soon after. Either is an excellant regulator.

ScubaPro. Amazing breathers, reliable and very little if any maintenance.

Are you saying that the Poseidon's are a problem to service? I really like the Odin/Jetstream.

Taat2d,
I think your going to hear that Poseidon's require someone who does them regularly and that there isn't a Poseidon service facility on every street corner. I hear that that can be finicky to tune, but not if its someone who does it a lot. That’s what I have been told, however, I am finding them around in Canada and areas more than I thought.

There are a couple of firms in Canada that do a lot with them so that might be a good place to start.

Pretty much what ScoobieDooo already said. They are not known for being "service tech friendly". If you want something that will "travel well", I would stick with the other choices.
