You obviously don't hallucinate at 100 feet on Nitrox. I have :)
Probably could have saved a whack of money back in the 60s if I did:eyebrow:

I'm amazed at how many of you have been in my closet and checked out my gear. I'm going to stop taking my orange shovel when I dive and leave my octo home when I hike, or something like that. And duct tape my split fins, and hide my yellow whistle under my hood, and hide my snorkel in my multicolored wetsuit, and get some really big clown pockets to hide all the rest of my unnecessary stuff. Cause I look like a dork and you're all laughing at me! Oh yeah, and I'm putting a lock on my closet door!

I got GIVEN my slap strap, so I don't mind at all that it has Dive X-tras logo on it. If that's an orange shovel, it just goes with my orange wing :D

Something that seems like a really good idea at the time, but turns out not to work as expected, and gets replaced very quickly . . . The very definition of an Air2.

Hey Hey.. I use the Atomic version of the Air2 when I teach basic OW. Then again, I also use a 5' hose on the student's open water dives. Oh well, there's my orange shovel.

Cheers :D

I'd completely agree. That's where most of us started (and still are). Its fun to talk about all of the things that we find useless and to joke about, mostly sense it used to be us. For the most of us its not an attack at new divers, scuba's a fun sport and from what I've found extremely friendly especially towards new divers.
Good post. We're all just having a little fun, I'm not feeling any "elitist" vibes here and I sure haven't gotten my feelings hurt over any of my equipment..

I have purchased and I've been told...

KnightHawk BC- you're gonna die
Air2- you're gonna die
console- you're gonna die
RETRACTOR- you're gonna die a horrible agonizing death
brass bolt snaps- you're gonna die
tank boot- you're gonna die
snorkle- you're gonna die
deluxe hog harness- you're gonna die before you even get in the water

Now that I'm in an approved HOG rig I'll most likely live forever!:eyebrow:

I would offer all my other gear for sale on Ebay but I feel like it's just too dangerous.:D

Bright yellow AL80's (those are littered all over on craigslist), many with some clashing neon tank mesh and matching dustcaps

I buy them any chance I get. We use them as stage bottles in the caves or wrecks. We also put a Chemlight on them, and we never seem to lose sight of where we put them.

Cheers :D

Snorkel or large knife on leg

Jake:
I used to think tank wraps were dumb, and then I was exposed to tanks on a professional level. I've seen some pretty deep external gashes on AL80 tanks that were cause for the tank to be condemned. I've wondered whether a cheap tank wrap would have saved the owner $150 for a new bottle.

Not sure about this one. If I need to get someone's attention, I don't want to go digging!
I agree with Jake...I have an orange whistle on my chest D-ring, mesh tank wraps, and a retractor, and I've been diving for years. Why do I have them? They work for me. It's the attitude that separates the "noobs" from the rest. Noobs nervously check out everyone else's gear hoping theirs meets everyone's approval, while someone who's been diving for awhile knows what works for them and could give a s**t what the rest of the boat thinks. That might also explain why I also use Force Fins....talk about controversy:D
Just my 2psi,

Has anyone mentioned the PADI "Buying new equipment c-card"?
I hear it's a real bargin!

If you're not sure you want to go all the way for the cert you can do "Discover Credit Card Debt."
