I love newbies! They have such joy in what they're doing, and they're often the most attentive and careful buddies.

The OP just wanted to know how to avoid looking like one.

I think that there is nothing wrong with looking like a newbie. After all, we were all there at some point :)

I'm currently a newbie in a whole new realm :D

Big shark-killer knife on your calf

1. you don't really need that big of a knife
2. on your leg it will get tangled in line. Ironic since it's purpose is to cut line that you got tangled in :rofl3:

Well not only that, mostly I wanted to avoid useless and pointless buys, my wallet is already feeling a good squeeze, and I'm trying to make sure I get the best quality in the essential parts, and avoid spending too much on stuff I'll never use.

I Do have the 30$ tube, I just assumed when I was told I should have one that I would use it. It didn't even make it into the pool:11doh:
That 30$ would have covered shipping on a regulator, or paid for 1/3 of a SPG.
besides I don't need any little giveaways to tell people I'm new, the bouncing up and down and the upside down ascents do that for me:D

I'm also sorry that I prefer the comfort and convenience of my neoprene slap strap with my LDS logo plastered on it over the "l33t diver" pain/pleasure of having a rubber strap...

3-Ring Octopus:
...up here in the "deep'n'dark" (or the lesser known but far more fun world of extremely low vis known as the "shallow'n'still dark" LOL) of the PNW bad gear can be one more liability we don't have the luxury of affording.

Do you seriously dive the PNW without a hood?

Trimix on a 100ft dive always makes me laugh

I just finished reading this thread, well that was another wasted afternoon.
Was someone holding a gun to your head or did you choose to waste it:huh:

Yeah, but I can make 3cuft last all day. When I see those expensive bubble going up from what might as well be a snorkel dive a get a chuckle
