You are making a deep dive on a wreck (Spiegel Grove comes to mind). You are pennant flying in the current. Suddenly your buddy loses his/her grip and you watch as they are swept away. As their buddy, do you then let go to stay with them?

True, but I don't think I'd be diving under those circumstances.teknitroxdiver:However in certain conditions I would stay with the line. I know that sounds morbid but if the vis is 5', and the current is blowing 2 knots, with serious waves and fog, by the time you could notice, think about it for a second, and release, your buddy is out of sight, and you're not likely to find him. Better to know that he's popping his own smb, while you send your's up with a wetnote to tell the crew to follow him in the dinghy or start throwing crap overboard.
*shrug* Sometimes in the gulf there's a 20 foot 'murk' layer, with calm seas and great viz below that. Kind of a tough call in any case.El Orans:True, but I don't think I'd be diving under those circumstances.
