I get an employee discount. That's what my gear says about me.

I think my dive gear may say I'm a whore:shocked2:. Other than the HOG regs and wing I don't think I have two other pieces of gear that are the same brand.

I always thought it was the fish net stockings and mini skirt...

I thought we were talking about the gear not what we wear under it.

Personally, I firmly believe that most people's kits say far more about their LDS than themselves (myself excluded, making my LDS PO'ed at me - lol).

New divers make decisions about their gear based on color. I've seen it so many times. I've tried to discourage it to no avail. They'll change the mask to another if pink is available in the other style or brand. Ditto for fins and snorkels. Glad we only sell booties in black - at least color doesn't enter into that choice. Ridiculous but true.

But if they really wanted them - they are available. :D

If a person dives in all hand me down gear they got for free does that mean they are responsible for the "image" of that gear, or does the "image" still belong to the original person who bought it new and picked it out?
Just curious.

Eric now my head hurts...

And what is streamlined? todays squared away diver may look pretty bulky by other standards

I love it!
There's an image in not having an image.
Either way, no matter what we do we project some sort of image.
I guess my/our (your image based on that pic) is to minimize our image by minimizing our gear.
Therefore, less gear means the less imagery to be seen in the form of superfluous gear that serves no purpose but to support someones "image".
I wish there was such a thing as invisible pills because then I could truly not have an image.
I suppose if I really wanted to blend in I could just dress up in the same gear everyone else does, but that goes against all my minimalist beliefs and my Zen.
So, people see me and my lack of gear and say "Hey, look at that guy", because I stand out. But you see, I don't care if I stand out (with some people) because I do what I do for me, not to support an image.
But truthfully, when I'm on a beach doing my thing with just a tank on a harness with one single second stage and nothing else, most people beach combing and walking around pay little or not attention, and that suits me just fine.
