My son and I are heading on our first liveaboard trip this summer to Truk Lagoon.

Outside of the items on the lists available everywhere on what to bring, I am curious as to what the one or two unique/special items you wish you had brought along on your liveaboard.

A quality compact personal USB rechargeable mini fan to keep air moving over my face while sleeping.

Oooh, my first thumbs down on ScubaBoard, exciting! OTF, let me explain, no one in their right mind in Australasia spends any time in the sun (although plenty do), so far from being flippant about such things, I take them seriously. I love hot climates, but you won't see me in the sun unless I'm covered from head-to-toe like a Malaysian school girl.

Same thought about sun protection in Australia, but I do bring them with me. Last LOB I did on the GBR I was under shade almost the whole time (or underwater), so I rarely used sunscreen or hat. With the only exception of a couple of times where people decided to hang out in the open area soaking that sweet UV13 (extreme), whilst I was fully covered.

But how extremely light do you all need to travel that a hat can be considered something to leave behind?

Another weight saving thought. Liveaboards have indoor areas and shaded outdoor areas. No need for sunscreen or hats, and possibly even sunglasses (although you may want those things for another part of the trip.
Have to disagree here. Riding in the panga/inflatable to and from the dive sites there is no shade. Remember that when on the water you get more UV because of the reflection from the water.

I bring a face buff and/or a hat to cover up for the panga ride. As you say, i stay in the shade on the big boat.

Another things to bring: lycra socks. Feet take a beating from being wet and kicking a lot and socks are a godsend if you have any kind of blisters/tendonitis etc. I take a couple of pairs and usually give one pair away to someone with foot problems.
