I have been to Belize and the Maldives ... and while they're nice enough you can get way more bang for the buck pretty much anywhere in the South Pacific.

I don't doubt it. Belize was more about a going because of a friend of mine and the Maldives was because you always hear about how great it is. I'm always open to suggestions though haha

The main reason people go to Belize is convenience ... at least from a USA perspective. It's close by, and home of one of the world's largest barrier reefs. It's quite OK ... particularly as a "first major dive trip" kind of experience. But for easy Caribbean diving I'd prefer Roatan or Bonaire.

One of the big attractions to the Maldives are the channel dives ... drift dives where you can watch the pelagics feeding. There are some very nice reefs in the Maldives, and it's where I saw my first whale shark (two, actually). But for sheer abundance of life, reef colors and variety I really liked Fiji ... and it was way less expensive than the Maldives.

A Red Sea liveaboard will give you even better experiences (to my concern), north up along the Sinai for wrecks and south to Brothers or beyond for pelagic life. The Red Sea reefs are the healthiest I've ever been to.

I'm also partial to Indonesia ... Bali for shorter trips (nice reefs and close to the airport), Lembeh Straits for muck diving (amazing critter life ... but a lot less color and visibility), Komodo and Raja Ampat for some of the best overall diving anywhere in the world. The downside to Raja is it takes so bloody long to get there ... you have to fly past the middle of nowhere and backtrack. But it's worth the ride.

A BIG plus 1 for the Britannic

I have three:
Raja Ampat
God's Pocket
Truk

Literature including the bible makes reference to the four corners of the world. I chose to interpret this as meaning north and south of the equator and east and west of the prime meridian.

I have dived 3 of the 4 corners of the world. Australia among others south and east, Chuuk among others , north and east, Niue ( look it up) west and south, so I need to go north and west to have dived the 4 corners of the world, looks like Hawaii or Scapa Fliw, time and budget will tell

Raja Ampat.
Money is not the problem; its time my friends.
