While we are having a great discussion on semantics, I would like to draw attention to OP's actual question.... what defines a "tech diver"? Aside from being trained to execute some form of tech diving, overhead or accelerated deco, is there anything that separates us from recreational divers?

We have zero money in checkings or savings accounts.

I thought you were talking about the egg/stone pic … and was about to add the ‘Brilliant’ emoji, until I realised you were actually serious 😂
I view it as a boundary zone as I sit at the rec. to tec-lite edge. I'm exacting, studied deco, plan reserves and have rec-trimix. With rec-trimix, I can't just shoot to the surface at speed. The difference between that and limited back gas deco seems minimal to me... I can't directly surface either way. One needs slow ascent always, one needs stopping and waiting. But both are substantially different from full doubles, accelerated deco and back-gas contingency. In planning, procedure, contingencies, gas quantities and gear.

I can see now clearly the smooth boundary between all types of diving, this rock was the perfect analogy

For the OP: Why does it matter? What are you contemplating and why do you care if it's called tech or not?
I really don't think it does matter. My personal take is that ALL diving requires at least some basic level of "tech" and that SOME diving requires much higher levels of "tech". I was just curious if there was an actual "line" or definition since it seems that the line seems very important to some folks...

As to "why I care"........ I really don't. It's just a simple and respectful question based on curiosity and I actually think the discussion has brought out some interesting points of view......

It's clearly a photoshopped pebble. You can tell by the pixels.
I think this is serious now …

Sad to say it’s the first time I had to use the red Thumbs Down emoji but I cannot let that pass
