1) Softback BCD IMO does not hold the tank as stable as a Hardback, the tank can sway sideways by an inch or two and it's annoying.
2) Softback, on the surface, puts ALL(100%) of the tank weight on the shoulder straps, with a hard back it's partly distributed towards your hips.
I see only advantages on hardback that I will not forfeit for price or weight (for travel).
