We are pleased to announce that OC1 shipments have begun! The days of buying a dive computer based on algorithm have come to an end. The new OC1 is Powered by Oceanic's Exclusive Dual Algorithm - Your choice between Pelagic DSAT (Spencer/Powell data basis) or Pelagic Z+ (Buhlmann ZHL-16C data basis).
The DSAT basis has been in use for many years – on Oceanic and a variety of other dive computer brands. Literally millions of dives have been conducted with a perfect safety record. The Doppler studies used to validate the PADI RDP and the Pelagic DSAT algorithm is still to this day the single largest study ever conducted. These tests conducted were no-decompression multi-level repetitive dives – and as such, the Pelagic DSAT model is going to provide safe limits for that kind of typical recreational diving.
The Pelagic Z+ Algorithm is based on the Buhlmann ZHL-16C data – which includes mostly decompression diving profiles. For typical recreational diving, you will find that this model is a bit more conservative than Pelagic DSAT. At the same time, those doing repetitive deep and/or planned decompression dives, will find that the decompression profiles will be less restrictive than the DSAT model.
It is no longer about whether an algorithm is right or wrong, liberal or conservative. It is simply about what is right for you at the current moment. Your will no longer have to choose a brand based on your decompression algorithm preference... In true Oceanic fashion, we’ve given the diver a choice depending on who they’re diving with or the kind of diving that they’re doing.
The OC1 also features an optional 2 minute deep stop at half your max depth (for dives deeper than 80 ft), “cell phone style” menu system, dot-matrix digital compass, multi transmitter and nitrox mix compatibility, and much more. All in a strong, lightweight titanium housing rated to 660 feet. Additionally, the OC1 operating firmware may be automatically updated via OceanLog PC Interface.
