Just for those of you who are keeping tabs on the whales coming back to the islands...

On Oct 12th we had 2 Humpbacks sighted on the south shore of Kauai! We were able to see them on three different occasions as they were sticking very close to 20 minute dives. Very exciting (and early for Kauai) to see them! While it is not uncommon for a handful of Humpbacks to arrive WAY ahead of the rest....we still get super excited to see the first blows.

The following day was a bit more sobering of a sighting, as it was during a stranding response on the east side of several Pilot Whales. 3 distinct and separate blows were seen on two different occasions during the mid morning hours.

I'd imagine Maui has already had a sighting or two this year!!

If you are headed to the islands this winter you are in for a a special treat with our Humpback Whales! I'd love to hear from the other islands as our whales come home!
