I don't think the whale sharks in isla mujeres exist. I went on June 18th with an operator and we spent 3 hours looking for whale sharks (with 3 hours of boat transportation back and forth) and found nothing. The crew kept saying "oh we saw a bunch of them yesterday", "oh they are always around". I wish they just published the statistics but it's all word of mouth marketing.
