Hi Guys,
What size wetsuit is appropriate for Fla diving in your summers and winters?

I am in NY and we heave to wear from 3mm to 7mm wetsuits up here all season.

I have a .5mm wetsuit as well but am wondering if it will be at all useful to me in Fla.

???

The .5mm will be fine for the summer in the Gulf. I have even seen some people wear them in the springs. I think they are nuts though. I like to be warm, and not chilled at all. I wear a 5mm all year long. In the winter I simply add a hooded vest.

How thick a wetsuit you need is entirely up to how cold-tolerant you are. I'm not the least bit cold tolerant, but I am wearing my .5mm this time of year. The last time I went diving, Atlantic bottom temps were over 80 degrees, warm enough for even me to be OK in a .5mm.

I have more wetsuits than common sense because of how easily I get cold... There have been times when I was wearing my 7/5 and a hood when I was diving with my SO who was diving in a shorty!

Winter Atlantic water temps get into the lower 70s or occasionally upper 60s. Occasonally upwellings of colder water do occur at various times. This time last year, an upwelling brought 62 degree water in, making a nearly 20 degree thermocline quite a shocking experience!

The springs run about 72-73 degrees year round.

I hope this helps!

did you get a 5mm suit or 7mm when you got your equipment? I use my 5mm when in fla, and now up here. I used my drysuit Fri. and the lake was 72 was very warm. If you got the farmer john your jacket and .5 will be all you need in the summer and full suit in the winter. We are going to A-bay fri am if you are off.

ChuckRT,
Thanks..I have a .5mm and a full 2-pc Farmer John 7mm suit.

I am off Tuesday this week and not Friday...thanks.

We will be going to A-Bay for the weekend of Aug 24/25th. Maybe do a Skaneatles trip or 2 before then.

You up for that?
