...I don't want to have a wetsuit that anybody else peed in. I want to know that the only pee I'm swimming in is my own.

Thx...Doug

One of the shops in Mass with whom I had a pleasure to dive a week ago has in bold capital letters on the rental paperwork (I was renting the tanks)
"DO NOT URINATE IN OUR WETSUITS OR ELSE THERE WILL BE $250 CLEANING FEE" :haha:

I thought it was hilarious. When I asked how they check, the clerk put on a poker face and said: "Oh, it's really easy to see...":)

I just read through this thread again (someone voted and brought it back up) now I have to pee. I will be back in a minute.

It is my understanding that urine is, in healthy individuals, sterile. While I wouldn't drink it, it is mostly water, urea, and some hormones/chemicals.

Almost right. It's not sterile. There are howver, no infectious organisms in it, that your body is not already dealing with. Thus if you were to "sprinkle" on that gash in your leg, no infection. However, if you "sprinkled" on the gash in your buddy's leg, he could quite possibly end up with an infection. =-)

So far, it's rarely been a problem for me. Hopefully will remain a rare issue in my new one piece semi dry, with those nice seals to keep the cold water out and the warm water in. :D

.. that I have never peed in my wetsuit while scuba diving. I stick to NDL diving, and the dives just aren't long enough to make me wanna go.

Spearfishing is a different story altogether. Out with the snorkel for three to four hours, after hydrating up before going out gets my warming my wetsuit all the time. And just like Pringles, once you start, you just can't stop!

sometime it is the best way to warm up your suit before the sea/lake/whatever water is warmed up

I have to laugh - my first open water dive was in Lake Wazee, WI - pretty dang cold, I tell ya. A more experienced friend advised me to get in the water and pee in my suit right away! She said it'd warm me right up. LOL

I'm not telling ya if I took her advice or not, however....
:D

Well, never say never, I guess...but only in rented suits.

Be warned: I've rented suits in Cozumel, Cairns, and Sharm el Sheikh!

I spent all the pool dives in my certification running back and forth to the bathroom.. then in my open water dives toward the end.. i had "to go " and i told my instructor... and hes like well just go... I did.... and i can honestly say.. we were in 7mm wetsuits.. and i will never do that again.. something about swimming in a pool of urine..... makes me wanna gag.. just my thought tho... if you want to go .. go... just dont lend me your wetsuit...

I read this post and have just spit pop all over my computer screen! :D

Hilarious Post!

I have to agree... this post is quite entertaining.... I've never peed in a wetsuit either and I don't plan on doing it... but if I ever come face to face with a blue whale in florida....LOL i might just break my own rule!
