Heading to Jupiter in April. All my diving is in NJ so my wetsuit is a 7mm. Is that to thick for Florida waters to get away with or am I better off renting a less thick suit?

I suppose it depends on how easily you get cold. I am certain my GF would be wearing her 7mm with a hooded vest then, however I'd probably wear a 3/2 or maybe just a skin, depending on water temperature.

I don't know about Jupiter but I use a 2mm armless shorty around Lauderdale/Pompano Beach in late April. If I feel chilly with that I add a 2mm vest for the second dive.

You cannot get too hot in a wetsuit, imo. If you start to feel warm, just flush some water through. I took my OW check out dives in 84 degree water in Cozumel....in a 7mm....and I was never hot and happened to be the only comfortable one on some of our surface intervals.

If you have a 7mm, I would recommend bringing that rather than spending money on a thinner wetsuit (and running the risk of being cold) or borrowing a pre-peed in wetsuit.

I dived a fair bit on the panhandle, which in winter is probably a bit colder than Jupiter. When the water temp. is 60F or above, I just wear the top to my 7 mil. And the hood (just to keep water from splashing directly into the ears). Check the water temp. ahead of time (NOAA) and consider just bringing the top rather that renting anything.

Jupiter is deeper diving around the 90' range. I was comfortable in a 5mil wetsuit and 5mil hood. This time of year the air temps down there are in the upper 70's to low 80's. Water temps right now are in the low to mid 70's. So decide what is best for your overall comfort above and below.

Enjoy your dives, Jupiter is one of my favorite dive spots!

The 7mm will be fine. I've dived in everything from a 3 to a 7 (with a 5mm jacket) off Jupiter. As someone mentioned, have you ever actually been too warm in a wetsuit?

The only concern would be on the boat before you get in the water. If it is hot, you may start to overheat. Keep some water nearby that you can pour into your suit if necessary.

Thanks. I"ve been diving for three years but never in warm water. Sounds like I'll be fine with my wetsuit and save a couple of bucks.
