I have a 5mm full suit now I will be going to coron island in May to dive the Japanese wrecks. Is 5mm to heavy? I have used a 3mm shorty for reef siving in Boracay. I am not sure of the water temp in Coron Bay.

The 3mm shorty would be just fine.

0.5 mm is just right anything more means extra weights.

Shorts and Rashguards would be enough during MAY ..

water temp is now at 28 centigrade and RISING. MAY is the warmest months here in the Philippines.

28C...dang...no wonder Chip dives without any rashies. Dived this weekend here, a cool 19C...topside probably colder plus biting wind and 2m swells.

summer's just starting to heat up this part of the world. although its kinda late already. the months of march and april used to be hotter.

3mm wetsuit would be great

this may be a dumb question, but so be it.

is there a difference between a 3mm surfing wetsuit vs a diving suit??

i've searched around on this subject and what people are saying is you can move more with a surfing wet suit.. will it work for warm water diving? if u can move more wouldn't that be an advantage??

paolov:
no. 1.5 or 0.5 mm would be GREAT !
I'm bringing my 5mm... :e18:

I'd reco the 5mm. It isn't a question of warmth - but the shorty wouldn't offer enough protection if you will be going to dive the wrecks. You have a good chance of getting scratched up on the metal so having a fullsuit is important. I still have "scars" on my wetsuit from Coron.

Now the shorty would be good for the reef dives, and no wetsuit is needed for Barracuda lake.
