Have you ever considered looking at Pinnacles? They have really awesome suits; I'm very happy with the Merino Elastiprene 7, hooded vest + torso...

Welcome to Scuba Diving. Seems that most of the folks here in Nevada have had good luck with Akona. You can't beat them for the price and they do hold up quite nicely. As long as you like the color black, you should be quite happy. LOL

Depending on your size and weight I know we have many clearance wetsuits or slightly used that may meet your budget. Scuba Clearance Items

Like Berrabitt said, go to Play-It-Again Sports ( I think there is one in Redondo ) and buy a used suit. That way you are not wasting your money when you grow out of it.

Otherwise check the local surf shop and ask who makes custom suits. They are sometimes cheeper than the off the rack, one-size-fits-all suit from a major manufacturer. Mine was made by Eagle Reef through the Sea Ventures SCUBA shop in Fullerton, CA. I also have a top from M&B Wet Suits in Long Beach. M&B can be expensive.
