Just a few weekends ago I was diving a my Scubapro S600 and had this very problem. With every breath a large mist of water would enter the reg. Mostly just an annoyance at first but seemed like it was worsening and was forced to switch to by octo. Note: this was the first time diving this reg since having it's routine service. Never had any problems before this. After this dive I returned the reg to my dealer and everything checked out o.k. His only explanation is that the diaphram might have gotten slightly pinched when the reg. was screwed back together. Have not had a chance to test it again.

Do the vacum test suggested by DA. There should be no leakage with the regulator if you inhale and pull a vacum. Be sure the "dust" cap with O-ring is installed on the first stage or you will actually pull air though the first stage. It will hurt nothing but will give you a false test. N

The tech should have discovered the problem after the reg was re-assembled. He/she obviously did not perform a vacuum check of the second stage. There is no excuse for sending a reg out that way after an annual service.

Of course I also once discovered the alierons were reversed on a Beechcraft Bonanza right after its annual inspection. I had to look twice and confirm they really were moving the wrong way as it is not something you see every day. So the moral of the story is that you need to be especially careful about pre-dive (or pre-flight) checks any time the reg has been worked on.
