Hello Group -

I'm a long time listener, first time caller, and I had a question about dysfunctional relationships between my cat and burmese python.....

oh, wait....wrong group....sorry.....

I recently bought an Apeks WTX harness system w/ their new 45# bladder and wanted to get some sections of 2" webbing w/ grommets to do a small modification. I'm going to take the webbing and some shock cord to create a bungee net that will even out the air and pull the bladder into the body when its deflated.

Does anyone know of any sources for this?

Thanks,
Bob

OMS. Look for their bungeed wings of death. They have enough webbing, grommets, and shock cord to mesmerize even the most starry-eyed aspiring techical deviant.

Simply get rid of that perfectly good wing and get yourself a professionally-designed shock-corded assembly of truly historic strokaphilic proportions.

Nice first post, by the way.

Welcome to ScubaBoard...

Not sure I understand what you want to do exactly, but check out reefscuba.com. They have the best prices for webbing, and good shock cord pricing too. Also, take a look at ahh.biz for siimlar items and grommet kits (though the kits are expensive, and I'm not sure if they include SS grommets).

Thanks for the help, guys. The OMS wings are ideally what I was looking for....just my luck that I didn't check here before buying. I've a Tusa Imprex that I'm returning to a shop that supposedlyhas OMS wings, so I may be able to find an OMS there. I'm wondering though if it'll work with my WTX harness.....

Floater - I was going to use sections of the grommeted webbing vertically oriented along the sides of the wings. The WTX has 3 small rings on each side that I can use to weave the shock cord through. I'd use 4 webbing sections - two sections attached to the tank bands and two sections on the side parallel to the wing's zipper. The shock cord would be woven to the small rings and one row of grommets on the parallel sections. The other row would have a fixed nylon rope woven through it and the section attached to the tank bands. Doing it this way will pull the wing away from the tank, towards my sides when deflated. The retraction bands on the OMS do a similar thing, but I can't tell if they keep the wings from "flapping", if you know what I mean.....

Thanks again for the help, guys!

Im just curious as to why you want to bungee your bladder, it seems like all tech divers that I talk to wouldnt touch one of those OMS wings with a 10 foot pole, for various reasons.

Let's see...you posted at 10:32 this morning, so I'm sure you've been dead for several hours now because you bungied your wing, or expressed remote interest in doing so.
Don't you realize that there are uncounted experts on this board who can predict your demise from doing this to the exact second? Uh, they might nt dive all that much, but trust me, they know.
Rig your stuff the way you want to. Then diveit and make modifications as you see fit.

Tom - um....I'm still alive, not going diving until next week up in Puget Sound...but don't worry, I'll be sure to post to the board in the event of my demise. Seattle's got pretty good free wireless coverage, so I'll be sure to take my laptop on the dive...my battery doesn't last too long so I hope the boat has a generator and a long extension cord ;-)...as to the matter at hand, I think you're saying that there's no problem in doing what I've described.....right?

USFScuba - I've seen other BCD's that have bungied the air cells (Tusa Imprex, Zeagle & Aqualung/SeaQuest have ties for their back inflates, and OMS). My main purpose in trying this is to tie them down & keep them from flapping around. So what are some of the concerns with bungie-ing the wings?

i have been told that the bungie makes the wing less streamlined because it creates dips in the wing that the water has to pass over instead of a smooth surface. Also getting a bungie caught on something doesnt sound like anything I want to happen underwater. There are a couple of other reasons but I cant remember them right now ill repost if i do. The fact is unless your doing some tech diving this shouldnt be a problem im just giving you some heads up.Besides tomwinters sarcasm will kill you before the bungiee will im sure.

Get a wing that doesnt flap.

Get a wing that doesnt flap.

Thanks evad - really appreciate the insight behind this. A non-flapping wing....who'd a thunk :smash: I'm glad that I've got people in the know who can help me with these things........(:wallywink)

USF - I don't think I'll be swimming at any velocity where a dip in a wing will be that much of an impact. As far as the cord getting caught on something while diving, I'd argue that not keeping things within the shadow of your body has more of a potential for this. It is something to consider, though. I'd think knowing what you're doing, where you're going, and what you've got with you would be the first step in keeping you out of trouble......
