What the heck is up with the Weather forcasters in NE? Every weekend I read the weather forcasts to plan my Dive weekends. Good thing this weekend I decided to Dive regardless of weather as the forcasters were calling for Rain and thunder showers. Saturday was a great dive day! The seas were calm and the wind was slack. It did not rain once on us as we did are morning dives from Lanes cove. I have read other threads with similar events. More and more I think the weather folks are pridicting bad weather to protect thems selves if the weather turns bad and someo ne get caught in a storm. Mayby they are just just trained right. Maybe we should sue them for lost dive days!

Saturday was good weather wasn't it. :) Did a couple of dives at Folly Cove and sat around afterwards..grilled...drank beer. the most that we has was a spurious rain drop or two... Not even enough to call it a sprinkle. Not to bad if I do say so myself.

Element, if you rember the dive that you and I did at the Fort in RI, it was supposed to thunderstorm that day as well. Turned out to be great weather until later after both dives were done and we were settled in at the bar drinking a couple of beers.

Moral of these stories.....NEVER TRUST METEOROLOGISTS! If the weather is 'forcasted' to be bad plan a local dive that way if it does rain....you can cancel at the site and not feel bad for driving a long distance.

The only point of watching the weather is to decide if you should bring sunscreen or hiking boots...

Saturday was quite nice. A dive on the Poling with Soggy & NEW, and then over to the Nina-T.

They did even worse for Sunday. Kept forecasting more rain and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. Go figure.

But as D_A said, Folly was great. The five of us did 2 dives, 1st along the left wall, 2nd along the ledges on the right. Among five of us only got 2 lobsters though. For some reason almost every single one we gauged was just a hair or two under the limit. Saw one huge granddaddy in about 8ft of water, with claws bigger than my hands. Definitely too big to keep. He had a pink tag around the base of the claw, anyone know what those are supposed to mean?

Sadly, I've seen some biggies with bands on them that have slipped down the claw towards the "wrist". Why they were banded in the first place is beyond me. Actually, I know why one was banded but that's another "Why I think commercial lobstermen have no right talking to us about ethics" story.

I generally no longer plan my dives based on the weather (except for winter). I keep a close eye on the report, but it has to be pretty rough out here to call a shore dive in some places. Thunderstorms = bad and a dive was called Friday morning because of them, but this weekend was beautiful. Jeff, Dan, and I had the biggest waterbed ever for our predive in-water surface time.

It was definitely a tag. It was pink, and had something printed on it, numbers and such, but I couldn't read it...

Dunno, maybe Soggy is right. It could be the latest trend in lobster fashion... :D
