I live on Long Island, and I've found a place here that offers eyelash tinting (I guess that's the same as dying) for $38. I've never tried this before, but I've been toying with the idea for a while. I think I'll give it shot before my trip to Bonaire this spring (provided I can get it done in brown - I'm a redhead and black eyelashes look incredibly stupid on me). It would be heaven to not have to mess with mascara!

How do you search for place that does this? I have considered it, as well as having eyebrows done. I am BLOND which means without make up those features simply don't exist, but make and diving are not a great mix. Not being really into the 'beauty' thing, I'm not sure where to even look. Thanks

Most full service beauty salons should offer eyelash/brow tinting. I know when I got my cosmeticians license oh so many years ago, that was part of our certification. It's not hard to do and is safe as long as the hairdresser knows what he/she's doing.

You might also check some of the fancier spas.

All you need is Max Factor Lash Finity mascara. Trust me - I did my PADI Open Water and Advanced Open water courses with it, I've even been diving in the Red Sea with it and it's great. Doesn't smudge or run, and stays on all day! A little expensive a £7.95 but WELL worth it! Doesn't even give you 'panda eyes' if you put on more than one coat and then go diving!

As Dee suggested, I think many full-service spas do offer this. I had originally searched online for nearby spas that had websites, and I couldn't find it listed in their menus. But then I picked up an actual brochure from my spa when I went for a haircut and I saw that it was listed. So I'd suggest just calling a few places and asking.

I actually did a test-run last month, to see how dying would work for me - I figured it was better to try it before a vacation, just in case I had a reaction. I was disappointed in the results, but I think it's because my eyelashes are pretty short & apparently a bit sparse. I guess there's only so much dye can do. Oh well, I'm going to try some of the mascara suggestions that have been given in this thread...

Ok now I know some of you do not want or need the stuff but I like it.

I would like to know if anyone has found any truly waterproof mascara?

Lancôme is my very favorite for waterproof mascara -- I swear by it. As for lash tinting, it's great, but as Jaime said if your lashes are short and sparse it really will not make a difference. What is even better though, if you can stand the PAIN, is to have eyeliner tattooed on along with a lash tint. What a difference it makes if done correctly. It's pricey, but lasts a long time (years depending upon the person) before you need a touch up. It's well worth the price and the pain is like child birth, you forget it...

Revelon water proof mascara...works great.
I've used it for about a year now. The only problem I had was getting the stuff off. It stays on forever!!

yawn, lets talk about fish and sharks and the wonders of nature, just don't bother wearing any mascara until its apres dive time! Jees, no wonder men think women divers are a joke.

I know this is an old post... which I posted in... but never thought to report. I did find a place to do tinting and tattooing. I had my eyebrows dyed (I am a truly natural BLONDE!!!) right before a dive trip to Mexico. IT WAS AWESOME!!! after a dive... in the morning... I looked like a person with facial features!!! I loved it. I am trying to figure out how to spring for a tattoo job (more expensive on the face than other places on my body) :) Oh, and the dye lasted a little over 30 days, with much time spent in the water. :)

I just hate the racoon eyes when the wm does not work like it should!

:crafty: Hello ladies, I am a great fan of waterproof make-up. "And a great diver". Maybelline Full'N Soft mascara, from deep dives to beach dives it has never let me down. After a dive we usually meet up with friends or go to a restaurant afterwards. It stays on all day and night! and I never have to worry about my eyes. Just add the lip gloss and go.... (and no racoon eyes!!.)

:dazzler1:ps: My Husband a gong-ho diver, loves it. No Joke here......

Tattoo... eyeliner....? Now, I've heard of this & seen it done... but I still can't say I understand it.

can anyone explain why they would endure the pain & pay the money for *grumble* *mumble*

I can be a girly girl on (somewhat rare) occassion, but being a tomboy just makes so much more sense when I consider anything mentioned in this thread.

I dunno, maybe in a couple years the only thing I'll worry about when I dive is if my eyelashes can be batted with the utmost affect, but it's pretty low on the priority list right now.

No offense intended or anything... it's just that the whole idea perplexes me...
