Hi-
I will be heading to the Mayan Riviera in January 2010 and need advise which wetsuit to pack. What is the current water temperature?
Also, what kind of suit do you recommend for cenote diving?

Thanks!

The ocean water temp should be around 80 and, depending on your individual tolerance and the amount of diving your intend to do, a 3mm shorty or full suit is usually enough. For the cenotes, you can expect around 75 to 77 degrees and would probably be more comfortable with a 5mm. If you are looking for a great dive operator for the cenotes contact Dennis Weeks at Diablo Divers dot com. He can also take care of your ocean diving either by working with or referring you to a good local dive shop (depending on where you are staying). You may also wish to consider coming to Cozumel for some great drift diving. I use Living Underwater and will be diving with them from Jan. 2 to 8 but there are many others on Cozumel that get great reviews on this site.

Thanks a lot for the info and the recommendation. We will spend our time between Tulum and Cozumel and will have enough time doing shore diving and exploring some Cenotes. We have already scheduled a cavern course with German from Yucatech and will surely do some drift dives in Cozumel.
