steroids I quit because my sinuses are fine they are not inflamed and antibiotic I quit because I have no infection and I missed a dose, once you miss a dose you need a new antibiotic. You are absolutely right Fisheater I did think that you guys have some trick to get the water out.... even if you would tell me to attach a vacuum cleaner to your ears, turn it on for 3 sec., shut it off for 6 sec., and repeat that 12 times :D

Blow dryer works better than vacuum, but that's to prevent swimmers ear. Your problem is deeper if your doc is right. I think it can be difficult to tell one from another so they give treatment that works overall. Too bad Dr.Mike hasn't posted here. He usually does on ear threads and offers great insight, but usually includes following doc's orders.

Missing a dose does not mean "need a new antibiotic."

The steroid drops I don't leave town without include Cipro.

It is always smart to go to the ENT specialist than to guess. You want to make sure there is no damage or infection.

You may not have any infection, but I do want to clarify missing a dose of antibiotic does NOT mean you need a new antibiotic. Missing multiple doses of antibiotic significantly reduces the chance of cure, and raises the chance of developing resistant strains. But if you miss one dose of antibiotic, you should take it when you recognize the error, and resume the normal schedule with the next regular dose.

Steroids were almost certainly prescribed to reduce edema and enhance the chances of allowing the fluid to drain.

Second-guessing your doctor is not a very adaptive response. You may as well not have gone, and not have purchased the medications, if you were not going to follow the physician's directions.

Well, whats done is done... I have a physical on Monday with the same doctor, he probably will be pissed that I did not follow direction. Thank everyone for help.

That's almost a week. I'd start taking it again and continue until I saw him.

Water behind the eardrum???? Your sure he didn't say "fluid"? I just have trouble figuring out the physiology of that without your eardrum being torn.

Gawd, 2 more days went by without the meds.

Yeah, take the meds until the doc says stop. Write that down for future referencing, all docs, all problems, all your life - unless you change docs. I've fired some quacks, but these days most are pretty trustworthy.

I'm sure it would have been better if you had continued as ordered, or at least restarted 2 days ago, but - is your problem any better now? Your body does much of the healing. Even if better tho, keep taking the meds. Use the alarm on your cell phone to remind you; mine will accept several times so I suppose you can on yours.

Good luck.
