On a recent trip to Belize, flying TACA out of LAX, one of our group had their Light Cannon confiscated by the TSA. Another was told that he needed to hand carry it EVEN if the batteries were removed (which they were). Luckily, upon our return and after 2.5 hrs of effort, the one guy got his LC back.

Five others of us didn't have a problem....luck of the draw...everyone who went to one of the two screeners had problems, the others didn't Upon inquiring, they indicated it was TACA's guidelines......

Tamas:
What was the problem with the light? Did they give any indications to why it was an issue?

If the light were to activate in flight, it might cause a fire hazard.

I do question why our federal tax dollars are being used to enforce a commercial company's policies instead of government regulations? TSA should not have allowed anyone through with a light cannon IF (which it is not) it was US government policy to restrict those items. Otherwise, its up to TACA to prohibit you onto THEIR plane. Its up to TSA to determine if you meet federal guidlines on checked and carry on baggage.

Was it TACA's guidelines or TSA?
