Just a short story what happened to me few days ago. After 7 minutes of dive at depth of 43 m (143 feet) my Suunto Vyper suddenly reseted, went to watch mode basicaly saying: "Good afternoon, it's 6 o'clock PM, on January 1st, 2000", and after few seconds it turned to dive mode and showed "0 minutes, 43 meters". I was little surprised because it worked OK for some 100 dives, but I finished dive normaly doing planned deco stops, using the same Vyper, knowing actual run time and controling it againts my buddy's gauges. When we surfaced, Vyper was still showing depth 0,5 meters. After that I rinsed it in fresh water opened battery compartment and cleaned it (although no signs of salt was visible) and closed it again. After that I made some 15 dives with no problems - testing it in computer and gauge mode.

Definantly return it for service, you never know when it will fail when you need it.

The new one can also fail and you'll never know when (or if) this will happen. The key is not to rely only on computer calculated data but to know your profile and dive the plan. Backup bottom timer (or your buddy's gauges) can be enough if you stick to the plan and know the runtime.

Monkseal,

I had similar problems with my Mosquito and send it back to Suunto for investigation send a copy of your reciept with it along and they might replace it.

Well, in Croatia it's not just "pack, attach receipt and send". I have to solve this with customs if I don't want to pay duties when Suunto send it back and, believe me, trying to solve any problem with customs officers is something that no one wants to do. They are so complicated that I'm trying to avoid any contact if possible. I had to replace punctured wing last year and I had to pay additional duties for temporary export then to pay new duties when it was returned, etc. I'll continue with this one, if it fails again then I'll think what to do.

Can you upload a screenshot of the dive graph? Was this the first dive of the day? For your follow-on dives were any of them on the same day as your 43 meter dive? I was curious if your Vyper went into Error mode or Guage mode for 24 hours after your 43 meter dive.

My Suunto Cobra did some weird things during a 28 meter dive, but I believe it was due to me violating a "safe" ascent rate. In my case the depth and time was incorrect during the dive, but when I uploaded the dive to my PC it showed me the correct profile.

The profile is attached. That was the first dive that day (after 5 days without diving). However, the first part of dive is missing (14 minutes) - it wasn't stored. Vyper was is Air mode after reset. The water was not too cold (17 C) and I had depth alarm set to 40m. According the info I've read in thread above, constant beep of depth alarm could be the reason of reset.

After that dive I made one more 6 hours later to check Vyper functionality.
