Viz Date Sanity Check

I'm losing it, but I'm old so humor me. I just had a tank visual done because it had been a year. The OLD visual sticker had 07/04 on it, and after 7/31/04 I couldn't get it filled.

I had it inspected in 8/04, and the new sticker says 08/04! So, doesn't that mean that it's wrong? Or are you supposed to ADD a year to the date?

I've always thought the date on the sticker was the EXPIRATION date, not the inspection date, but now either I'm confused or the sticker is wrong!

My VIP stickers say that the tank is good for one year passed the marked date. So this means your tanks don't need VIP'd until 08/05.

Mine don't say anything, except the name of the shop and the date notched out. But my last one said 07/04, and the last three times I had it filled they told me it was expiring.

So does this vary?

Just checked mine - and mine are dated the day they're viz'd, not the day they expire. Came from PST that way too.

Both hydro stamps and the date on viz stickers are the date the test is done not the expiry date. This is done because if the rules get changed there will not be any confusion.

I just got a note from PSI. They said the sticker should have the EXPIRATION date and I should take the tank back. So, at least PSI says it should ge the expiration. but obviously some others do it differently.

Such a small thing, but with the potential for lots of confusion. Just shows standards are difficult!

If PSI says to punch the expiration date, then they are incorrect. You punch the inspection date.

First thought is "AARRRGGGHHH" - I have done over 200 Inspections this year - Have I punched the stickers wrong?

Luckily no.

I checked my PSI training book..... It states that the current date is punched NOT the expiration date.

Well, this is interesting. The person who told me to punch the Expiration date was the General Manager of PSI! And his note says:

"The inspector should have punched out 8/05 when it EXPIRES, take it back and have a new sticker put on it with the correct date".

Last time he punched that sticker himself probably was ten years ago. It is not difficult to remember this incorrectly.
