I'm hoping you're right, Howard -- thanks for the update. I've been off the board the last couple days; I just tried a search and it worked well. I'll report back here if I notice further problems. 
Since this was such a mysterious glitch, I'm curious as to what you eventually figured out about it, or how it otherwise managed to go away.
