qasar: have you used it? it basically sucks. the newer editions are incredible, but of course cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
I don't remember running into any crippled trial versions off hand. I know adobe and sony movie studio aren't crippled. you'd be hard pressed to find a better option than sony movie studio without spending the big bucks for adobe.
 
Can I ask what kind of memory (RAM and HD) and processor speeds you all are using? I believe that is the cause of my editing difficulties.

Perhaps. I thought it was legitimate to consider the hardware capabilities when you compare software programs. A Ferrari is a fast car but not on diesel.
