Venture Wing vs. Rec Wing

I'm looking to purchase one of your wings to go with my Transpac and wanted to know if you could give me some more insight on the big differences between the venture wing & rec wing.

I do most of my diving in Michigan (great lakes & inland lakes) with a single alum80. I just recently got my c-card and hope to do some wreck diving and open water diving with the wing.

If you're going to be diving single tank for a while, it's best to go with the Travel or Venture wing. The Venture wing would give you plenty of lift plus a hair extra for floating a buddy. The Rec would be too big for single tank diving. It's workable, but it really is too big. If your rationale is to get a wing that can do both single tank and double tank, then the Rec wing would do it, but for the best performance, get a single tank wing and a double tank wing separately.

BTW, the red Rec wing is the fastest.

i agree with the above post. I dive a rec wing for my single AL80 and LP108 and it does ok. it traps alot of air and it definately over kill. the LP108 is by far easier with it than the AL80.

for doubles, i use a classic 360.

if i could do it over again, i would buy a donut style wing

I'll agree with the above statements, I have a rec wing and it's not really good for single or double tank diving. Anyone want to buy a rec wing?

We get this question a lot and I agree with the posts above. For the best performance, buy a wing that fits your diving style now. If you decide to graduate to tech diving, then buy a wing for doubles. That said, our most popular wing is the Rec wing because it is a dual - purpose wing.

Before I go much further, read the Solution Finder entry on our website under "BCDs and Harnesses" titled "What type of Dive Rite wing do I need?". There are several things you have to consider besides your tank. Body stature is quite important. For example, a Rec Wing is great on tall divers, but shorter divers may struggle with heads-down buoyancy because a lot of the lift is at the bottom.

I have a venture wing. I had to modify it because the top portion of the BC, pushes my neck and head down when I am trying to look forward when in a horizontal position. Ended up using some bungi cords to restrict a small u-shaped area of the BC directly behind my neck. Otherwise the wing was very uncomfortable at depth when nearly fully inflated. It works fine now, but not a good design!

I have a Venture Wing and it works well for Single Tank AL80 dives..I had a problem with the top of the wings hitting the back of my head but I resolved the problem by moving wing down farther on my Transpac via the grommets along the back..no problems since..btw does anybody know if the Venture Wing is still going to be produced?

I didn't like the venture wing. I felt like it pushed me face down on the surface. I tried trim weights and it didn't make a difference. I switched to the Rec wing and didn't have the prblem anymore.
