Don't laugh, I had one bite me on the hand last weekend!:11:

Is anyone willing to give up some numbers for getting to the boneyard by boat? I figure by now it isn't really a secret (except to me, while in a boat). If someone would PM me with some numbers is would be greatly appreciated. By the way, all you comedians, I mean GPS numbers.

What format would you like it in (DDMMSS.ss, DDMM.mm, DD.dd)?

solodiver and your support group,

Thank you for your reply. I was only concerned with the safety of the new diver and his mother with regard to Venice beach.

Yes, I am a trained diver and hydro-electrical engineering specialist.

I am not associated with any dive operation currently operating in Florida, but have been informed that if the Venice dive shop is busy, to contact submersion excursions for a safe trip and a great dive. I understand that the operation runs with a host of extremely qualified staff and provides a three tank shark tooth dive for 75 dollars including fresh soda, water, cookies, and a light lunch. I don't think any diver can knock a three tank dive with a light lunch for 75.00.

I understand that anyone can hunt sharks teeth, spearfish, hunt treasure, and look for lost ships. However, I understand that the owner of the submersion excursion is a professional diver, who professes safety first and fun second. I understand that he and a few crew are also well versed in salvage and recovery of historical nautical artifacts from U-Boats to lost pirates. They are known for their hunting specialty.

Unlike yourself and many in this part of the pan handle, I do not have 30 years of diving experience. However, I am a professionally trained diver and dive safely. I have been trained and have dove the game on and off the shelf with and without mix or re-breather.

I must make it clear that I only challenge your wisdom in advising and sharing with new divers your lack of personal safety when diving with regard to limited air and diving without experience and a buddy. My instructors and fellow operators would never dive a short fill, even in an emergency rescue.

I also now understand that as a solo diver, diving on limited air, with or without a flag, you do not consider the ramifications of a new diver who may take your advice and professed wisdom and dive a dive on a short fill.

Since your rebut, I have asked the local dive shops about the amount of return air to the beach or boat. 500 pounds is the least amount recommended. More air on the return is recommended.

I thank you for not challenging the death of the inexperienced Florida divers who have passed off Venice beach and the one still missing in the tarpon springs loss last year.

I did not intend on scaring anyone with regard to sharks, but to make a new diver aware of his environment. Also, since you dive down by the pier sometimes solodiver, I thought it might be wise to share with the readers the increased sighting of hammer head and bulls sighted hunting for lunch. Especially, since the kings are in and the tarpon arrive in the spring.

And for the record, I do know where I am going when I die solodiver. But, alas, if you can't sleep for the bent pent frustration for my reply to your post, check out Joel Osteen and enjoy the remainder of your morn!

In closing, solodiver, we do know each other from the beach...and I have taken your much appreciated advice.....
....and didn't wish to see a newby have an accident.......

Thank You.

Mmm... my wife understands and supports, the budget doesn't! HA! I've got 3 canoes now, one is about the right size to dive from comfy like... maybe some paddling out is in order, eh?

Nice finds!

Bonediver69 -- have you done a night dive there? I've done a night dive with some folks (cooltech and cmufieldhockey to be exact) at a sunset and watched as the twilight turned into night and it was an interesting scenery change to be pulled into.

Just so we're clear, there are always sharks off the beaches of Florida. There are always tarpon, though not always visible. Venice Beach, unless your trying to dive it in a storm, is a very basic open water divers dream dive, there is nothing to it at all and its a GREAT place to hone in skills and practice the safety and buddy skills for more challenging dives. Speaking of which, we're always open for new buddies to dive Boca Grade Pass with us.... its a dive that is totally unique to Southwest Florida! MUCH bigger sharks (10+ feet long is the average), 300+ pound goliaths, several different bottom terrains, medium to strong currents, and best of all, you can spear, stone crab and lobster all at the same time! Sometimes even recover OLD anchors and bottles to............. or you can just work through the dive. No matter how you do it, it is definitely a fun one!

Bonediver69, like a lot of people here I assumed that because of your enthusiastic support of Submersion Excursions, it might actually be your charter business you are trying to get up and running. If so my first impression was that it was too bad that you didn't just come out and say it because you won't find a more helpful and supportive group of people than the ones who frequent this board and I'm sure we would all try to send business your way. I didn't bring this up before because I would never try to get in the way of a guy trying to earn a living but since you aren't affiliated with the dive operation in question, I will tell you that I did call them after you gave the number in a previous post. I'm a sucker for treasure hunting and everything that goes along with it but when I called the number the guy's Dad answered and said that his son was out of town (I think he said for 2 months) and that he does take people out diving but wasn't sure what he would have to do to get the boat ready. Granted if someone called my house while my dad was visiting and started asking questions about scuba diving I'm sure he would sound pretty clueless, however, my first impression was not that this is an operation"with a host of qualified staff" and I would caution people to check it out and talk to some others who have been out with them. I couldn't find any info on the web about them either. I'm sorry if this seems like a hatchet job but you did say you have no affiliation to Submersion Excursions and the purpose of this board is to keep each other informed.
