Hey all, I am going to try my best to be there. I will bring more water and possibly some sort of dessert, but I don't want you to count on me in case something happens and I can't make it. I was hoping someone could answer some questions for me so I can over-prepare for this.

- Up here in Okaloosa County (Destin), dogs are not allowed on the beach, but Walton County (right next door) allows them. What are the rules in Sarasota County?
- Our beaches are sugar-white and very fine sand. I heard that Venice Beach was more of a coarse sand/shell-type beach. Is this true? (my daughter and wife have very tender feet).
- We are in some heavy "purple-flag" conditions up here lately. How are the jellies down there now?
- I am considering bringing 3 or 4 tanks w/me. (I want to maximize the "toof-haul" for my very first trip down.) Does anyone know the cost of air rentals at the closest LDS to the site? If it is cost effective, I may skip hauling tanks down to make room for the kitchen sink the wife always insists on bringing.
- About how many kids are going to be there and what are their ages? My daughter is 10 going on 27 and loves to socialize!

I know I am asking alot of questions, but I like to be extra prepared and my internet searches for the answers just aren't getting the best results. Any help you local SBers can give will be greatly apprieciated.

I see that y'all are meeting at 8 a.m. If we leave here at 6 a.m. (YIKES!!!) we won't be getting there until 9:30, 10 or so. I hope we can find parking...also, what is the exact address where this is happening? A map? Info on parking? Thanks in advance!!

No pets allowed.

They'll need shoes to protect them from the heat. The sand gets hot hot HOT! Sand at Venice is actually gray because of all the black fossil material mixed in with the white sand. Except for the heat, they'll probably be OK, although noboby has beaches like those in the panhandle.

I haven't heard of any problems and it's rare to jellies to be a problem.

How's your air consumption? A single tank may last you 1½ - 2 hours (more for those with really good air consumption). Rentals are $7. Unless you plan to unload then go rent tanks, you'll need the same amount of room in the car for rentals as for your own. You can always bring two tanks and fill them if you want to dive more. You'll maximize your haul by pairing up with an experienced fossil hunter and slowing the learning curve by watching their technique. A rule of thumb - swim quickly over sand, when you reach a fossil bed, swim slowly. Think you're moving slowly enough? - cut your speed in half, now cut it in half again.

No idea, sorry.

Bring a fine mesh bag and a buddy line. Florida West sell fine mesh bags, but a sock will work in a pinch.

Have fun, I'm sorry I won't be there to meet you.
