Well I've just moved out to Port Alberni in Feb and trying a dive out in China Creek tomorrow. Came from Alberta so it will be interesting to see what diving without ice above you will be like :-) Any recommendations of dive sites in the inlet???

There are lots of good sites in the inlet both shore dives and boat dives. Check out this site for pics and descriptions of most of them. I think he's a little jaded, as some of the sites he doesn't like are actually pretty good, but he does a good job with his site and research. index

I know your not trying to insult Mark sunday diver, but jaded is definitely not the word I'd use to descrbe him. Very few divers I know have half his enthusiasm for the sport. I can't recall him ever saying he didn't like a spot, just some he wouldn't return too.

I would have to agree a 100% with you Skookumchuck, over the last 10 years I did quite a few dives with Mark and he's definitely enthusiastic about diving and taking pictures. Jaded not a chance and let not forget that it is his opinion, not everyone likes the same kind of diving some like wrecks, deep wall and some like pretty fishes. He's going around the world right now, pretty sure we will see some amazing pictures from his trip whenever he get a chance to upload them.

Cheers

Don't take that too literally! Perhaps jaded wasn't the best choice of words I use his site and info weekly, I'm just saying that he has a huge amount of dives and he sometimes seems a little bored with sites that a new diver may find interesting. Unless you guys haven't noticed the dive business on the lower island isn't exactly flourishing, we need all the positive talk and good p.r. we can get. That means working and diving together to help everyone involved. Hyper-limits I appreciate your opinion too but you sure are quick on the gun. Can't we all just get along?

Well, whenever LDS owner tell a diver that BP/W are stupid he's not making a lot of friends. There is two reasons for his believe, one he doesn't know better or he's not selling BP/W so they must be stupid and only for Tech divers because he's not making money with them. I've been in the game for a long time, I have seen dive shop come and go. I know that Dan close his shop in Sydney which is too bad, but from the beginning you kind of knew that 2 shops in such a small area would not work. About being quick on the gun, that true Mark a friend and I will always defend my friends. I have no problem getting along, we could even go for a dive one of these day.

Cheers

Thanks hyper-limits I'd love to go for a dive one of these days. As for the said lds owner I don't know why he would have said that it must have been a misunderstanding of sorts because he has that setup and a lot of the divers in the shop use them as well. He doesn't like to get into the tech stuff, It's not his thing he sends anyone interested in tech over to Wilsons but doesn't discourage anyone from pursuing it. I agree it's a shame that Dan closed, especially as he dealt with the tech stuff more and had the only dive boat out here. It's certainly something that needs to be offered in the area again. Hey maybe we can put some club representation into the Sidney Dive Expo? Sunday Divers and the South Island divers could share a spot perhaps, and let people know we're still alive down here.

I was hoping he'd have posted some pics from Costa Rica by now.
Sunday Diver I'm sure Darryl's comments were unintended or misconstrued. I'm looking forward to diving with your club.

Thanks for the info. I checked out his site and the only two he mentions are both in China creek. We dove the tug and whaler, pretty easy to find. We're going out again to find the migrant ship in a day or so. Saw lots of crabs and rockfish. If anybody knows of any other shore dives in the Alberni inlet I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks again for the previous info, dive safe.

Glad you had a good time. You could email Peter Mieras, owner of rendezvous dive adventures, they dive in that area and he knows it very well.I spent some time up there with him the diving was great.
His email is info@rendezvousdiving.com
