You have a 100% chance to the whale sharks in Holbox at certain times of year.

Curmie!
You are funny.
Sad thing is, I am old enough to know who Joe Namath is and that he did wear hose!

This dive is my 40th Birthday wish/present to myself!
I better get booking or it will be late!

Don't want to hijack your thread, but if you want to see Whale Sharks in Utila, go see Steve and his crew at Deep Blue Utila. We had the good fortune to spend the last week there. Apparently, the Whale Sharks have been a bit sparse so far this season, but they found us one (two if you count the big one with the Oceanic White Tip tagging along, but we didn't swim with that one.) on our next to last day-a month out of season. The one we did swim with was a baby, about 10-12 feet and curious. My wife, son and I and our two dive buddies jumped off the boat and after making a pass, the shark made a turn and came right back to us. It hung around for about a minute, checked out the boat, ruined my best picture by sticking his eye right up to my camera lens and making it very difficult not to reach out and touch (a big no-no). Then it slowly swam away. An awesome experience. The resort was great: lots of good food served three times daily, 3 dives a day off the boat, plus all the shore dives you have time for if you ask for tanks the night before. We found our gear set up on the boat and ready to go before every dive, removed and cleaned every night. Matt, our divemaster, was incredibly knowledgeable about the dive sites and the critters, and went out of his way to find and show us the rare ones. My wife had a dietary issue and was catered to with specially cooked meals to suit her needs. The reefs were in better shape than any we've seen in Coz or Grand Cayman, and there are tons of dive sites with amazing variety. We saw everything from tiny blennies, seahorses and shrimp to big pelagics-groupers, tarpon and of course the Whale Shark. The weather was great while we were there. One evening of rain, but otherwise, 82-92 with a breeze blowing away the moisture, and a pretty constant 82 degree water temp. I wore a 1-2 shorty the whole trip and wasn't cold even on the 100 foot dive on the Halliburton on a windy day. My sons wore a swimsuit or diveskin and did fine, and my wife didn't overheat in her 3 mil full wet suit. You'll love Utila if you're there for the diving, just don't expect a tourist trap-it's about as opposite that as you can get and still have a place to stay. Good luck swimming with a Shark, it's worth the trip.:D

I totally agree w/Larry on Deep Blue. We stayed there in April. We did get to see Whale Sharks 3 days in a row. Deep Blue is top notch in every way. There is however just as good a chance you will not see any Whale Sharks. We took the chance and we are glad we did.

Ohhhh My god this thread has turned into the Deep Blue Resort appreciation society LOL

Thank you guys very very much for your kind words, its not just us its our crew, they are brilliant, as you know Swin is an amazing captain and I believe the best at finding Whale Sharks, I am sure you will agree, but also we must not forget Matt who works so well with him, and very hard for us.

Thank you again, it means a lot to me to know you all enjoyed yourselves and of course we would be very happy to see you again someday.

Steve/Jasmine, Matt is my favorite Dive Master ever. You are lucky to have him!

When I saw how cut-throat some of the other dive op's were during the Whale Shark encounters I was glad to have been on Deep Blue's boat. You earned your kudos.

Need more Earl Grey tea?

Hi

Well, the biggest compliment I think was that when Paul Humann was here he commented that we have a world class dive crew and they are one of the best.

Shh don't mention he is going gray now though LOL

Again thank you all, we will be here when you want to visit again.

Steve - Can you illuminate the Deep Blue Resort/dive shop differences? I won't be staying at a resort in August when my spousal unit and I head back to Utila, but will be diving every day; I am wondering how much of the "glow" from the resort rubs off on your separate dive shop (boats, crew, philosophy, etc.) Thanks!
