There is a certain level of circle thinking here. Some of us have been diving, and teaching diving, for a long time.... The point is not, "Why should the 7' not be used", it's, "Why should the 7' be used?"
There are about 50 posts in this thread giving very good, valid reasons. nova has taken it upon himself to ceaselessly ridicule the use of the 7' hose for no apparent reason. We just want to hear him say why :)

I think that rig configuration brings out a lot of defensive posturing. Why is that? As some other poster stated, "Why not a ten foot hose?"

As far the length of an octo hose goes, I tend to think in terms of what might be too short; any hose that is not, works.

I'm glad that you were trained with a long hose. just don't let it hang down and damage fragile corral formations like some do
I'm thinking of going diving, not horse riding ;)

I think the average dangly of the average diver, and the usual foot down, head up over-weighted trim is far more damaging to the coral than a cord that is inches below your waist - unless you are skimming the reef in a truly horizontal trim - then i would worry about your scooter ring snagging an elkhorn or something as much as a few inches of cord/hose ;)

Don't worry OE2X, he dousn't answer direct questions on the other board ether. He just calls you a poser, tells you your training is worthless and such.

Mind you, he DID shut up about the training thing after I pontned out I don't have any GUE overhead training. lol.

I guess useing quotes from the NSS manual just didn't answer your questions,

If I had to write a movie I'd call it "silence of the clams" Bruce Willis would play Hannabalnova and Peewee herman would have his pick of parts for you all. depending on if Micheal Jackson was out of jail. them MJ would play jonny

Why not a 10 foot hose? Because it's too long and there's no need for it. The 5 foot routes cleanly across your chest, and the 7 foot routes cleanly around a cannister or pocket, or tucked in your belt. Both of these lengths provide the necessary room for *mostly* all OOA situations.

50 posts with the wrong answer doesn't make it right. I've answer oeoes question to many times to count, and his only point is that it makes it easier to shair air. that's not a reason that's a cop out.

I love a good train wreck. Just can't pull my eyes away
It seems you can't help being the driver in a bunch of train wrecks I have seen on SB ;) We are just passengers waiting to see which train goes down again!! :11:

Are we going to hear about how terrible the X-Scooter is next?

The long hose has it's place in diving , but it's not for everyone or every dive. Try and find out what and who developed the long hose and what kind of diving they were doing. and then decide if you need a long hose. INHO most rec divers don't need it and I've seen long hoses become dangerous to the diver wearing it.:death2:
how about that , I answered the question on post 19. I wonder what I said on post 29 that might help.
