Using A Long Hose Isn't Just For Tech Divers

I can't stand the way the shorter hose vibrates as it flaps in the breeze. The long hose also causes less fatigue on my jaw due to better routing. How's that for a couple of additional reasons to use the long hose.

the hubby and I were discussing this this evening. I have had extensive surgery on my jaw and after a normal dive had lots of pain. tried several mouth peices but nothing worked till I got a longer hose. Im not sure why , mabe just less pull? Its not 7 feet long so mabe it dosnt fit in with this covo, but again its really up to the idividual. Still waiting lamont.

I'm NOT against using a 7' hose for rec (better be trained with it though), it's just not necessary, in-and-of itself. It's a tool. I use 5' hoses myself.

Also, I do NOT recommend Air2 for OOA situations. I wear an Air2 (actually Atomic SS1) on my rig, BUT I consider it like I consider a pony - I have an M1 for a primary and an M1 for a secondary.

(Of course when I get to Seattle, I will get with the program, and dive the way my new buddy does: 7' hose, BP/W with single harness, no snorkel...etc. )

LOL. Hey you can dive whatever style you want - except naked. The Pugster, Bob and I will dive with anyone.
BTW - did we ever mention that we don't hang tanks from our boats?

Here's another reason - don't know if it's been mentioned yet, I confess that I haven't read the other - sheesh - 38 pages of this thread in their entirety.

I have an AGA full face mask, and the darn thing is of course left handed. (The LP port is on the left side of the mask, for Lord knows what reason.)

With my rec o/w 5' hose, for the first time I can use the same hose for FFmask diving as for regular diving. Not a very PC configuration these days, but if the buddy is going to spaz around running out of air while I'm wearing my AGA, he gets the octopus, period. This would only be within rec limits, anyway.

The 5 ft hose routed under the arm accomplishes the same thing. The hose comes in from the side thereby reducing jaw fatigue. A swivel on shorter hoses tries to accomplish this, but you still feel the vibration of the hose flapping in the wind as well as add a possible failure point. When I first stated diving, I had a swivel put on my primary reg. It failed just before a dive, st I got rid of it.

Im using the swivel / longer hose now. I agree on the possible failure point but havent found anything that works better at this point :/

I wholeheartedly agree!

One could also make the point that it's all about the team.
And then you could imagine a case where having standard gear is better for the team as a whole than each person having whatever "is right for them" at that particular time.

Of course, that doesn't say anything about hose length, but something to consider
