I find it fascinating that the two most controversial (and popular) threads on the entire forum have to do with the length of someone's regulator hose, and a preference (or not) to wear a snorkel.

Those are two serious "why whould anyone else really care" issues, to my concern ...

*sigh* guess Im not gotta get answers about pink and yellow and fins on here lol. And yes some ppl on this thread kinda scare me with some close minded stuff but other then it seems very cool.

Yes, its hilarious. This obsession with long long hoses is a compensation issue, I guess. The most high tech and macho looking divers, those with the most gear, are the least secure. Whereas guys like me....

I understand that Im just asking why. :) errrr not why hes joking :) but the importance of fin color? I know why he said it I just want him to say it :) Dont think he will tho.

BigboyDan:
A 7' hose is needed in cave and certain overhead/wreck envirements for a specific reason, otherwise they are unnecessary.
Unnecessary maybe. Hey people can do air shares on Air2's.
Does that mean that it's better?

Dan I'd like to know why you are so against using a 7' hose in a rec. enviroment?

I can't stand the way the shorter hose vibrates as it flaps in the breeze. The long hose also causes less fatigue on my jaw due to better routing. How's that for a couple of additional reasons to use the long hose.

novadiver:
Back on topic, If the only reason there is, is to shair air, then you could go solo and not worry about a long hose and avoid the potential hazard.

I'm NOT against using a 7' hose for rec (better be trained with it though), it's just not necessary, in-and-of itself. It's a tool. I use 5' hoses myself.

Also, I do NOT recommend Air2 for OOA situations. I wear an Air2 (actually Atomic SS1) on my rig, BUT I consider it like I consider a pony - I have an M1 for a primary and an M1 for a secondary.

(Of course when I get to Seattle, I will get with the program, and dive the way my new buddy does: 7' hose, BP/W with single harness, no snorkel...etc. ):)
