Holy entanglement hazard Batman!

For some reason I am reminded of the central vaccum cleaner hose that was in the house I grew up in. Good thing I never tried to breathe through that!

Looks Like I missed the party, let me see what I can rig up with my Garden Hose. Would it be ok if I attach 20 octopusses, that wat the entire dive boat can breath off my long hose???

Uncle Pug:
Would you rather we just make fun of one another and leave you out of the festivities.... hmmmm?

ummmmmmm...ya? j/k :)

sorry if I got all too serious Mr Pug person. I was quite interested in some serious opinons on fins for a beginner tho. If that ever comes up again lol.

Uncle Pug:
Nah... Lamont doesn't get annoyed. I tried to annoy him Saturday by saying "Looks like 5thD had their way with you" and he just smiled and said, "Yeah."

That post of his sure was funny though... Lamont ya did real good. :D

hehehe... yeah, a couple of you are reading way too much into that post...

How did/do you have it routed, under your arm? I can't see there being much difference between the usual hose routed across the shoulder ...
It could be that I mounted my cylinder low so the back of my head would not bump my pillar valve. That would need a somewhat longer hose.

As like senior members of this board and such shouldnt you two be trying to share your wisdom and not be making fun of ppl? I dunno but its just a thought.

and if we are talking bout the same post it really wasnt that funny.

Hi Scuba Squared.

Fins.... Split fins are generally though to be faster in a straight swim (less fatiguing), but not as effective in sculling to hold a postion, or turning tight. Photographers, who hang around a lot, tend to prefer paddle fins. I've no particular place to go, and have a perfectly good pair of paddle fins I bought in 1997, so don't own splits.

The other important difference is between full foot and foot pocket fins. Full foot fins are worn with naked feet, and are favoured by a few people who dive from boats in warm tropical seas (like me), or who trave a lot and like to keep it light (also like me). Those who dive in cold water, or who shore dive in areas with rocky entries (like me occasionally), much prefer the foot pocket fins worn with booties, 'cause let me tell you, walking on those sharp rocks wearing a tank is for idiots (like me). I won't comment on cold water divers, because I might have to do that someday.

In choosing fins, if possible, go to a dive shop with a swimming pool and try out several while wearing your gear (don't do this without gear on as the characteristics of the fins will be quite different under a lighter load). Color is more or less immaterial, but flouresent colors are more visible at depth, a consideration if you are buddy diving. Men generally buy women pink gear, because they think they will like it, but ever since a certain Genesis ad five or so years ago, I personally have been partial to girls in yellow fins.

Hope thats useful.

Tim

TY Tim It does help alot. Right now I have some aventiquattros but it always seems like everyone jets ahead in a rush. I kinda lag scoping things out and have to rush to catch up eventually. Im very comfy in my fins but i seem very slow. Or maybe i just need to stop having staring contests with that bass! I dunno.

Ps. Im a woman and If my husband came home with pink dive gear for me he would be my husband no more. Lucky for him I buy my own dive gear :))
