To each his own.
Hence the YMMV ;)

I find the 7 foot hose routes perfectly, and anything shorter to be a PITA.
It wasn't the routing that was the issue...just a long floppy hose that wasn't required (no overhead) and half the time I didn't use my can light, so It was just easier to put a 40in hose under the arm and into the mouth.

Its only a matter of time before you will be assimilated, resistance is futile :eyebrow:

awesome!!! this was the best part of the thread ;) FWIW, I do not dive with the long hose... but agree with its benifits. I plan on adapting my gear for it soon.

This was pretty funny but too true in some cases. There is definitely a collective mindset for advice not necessarily based on experience.

For what it's worth, I dare say that I feel the recreational diving community would benefit more from the use of the long hose than the technical diving community simply because there is a higher rate of OOA incidents within the recreational diving community than there is in the technical diving community.

Just to head off a possible barbecue please let us not confuse OOA incidents with fatalities.

We should all ignore the benefits of the long hose, after all it was first used by cavers so no one else can use it according to some. W. that said, we should all either quit diving or join the french Navy!

Theres a TV show called "Tactical to Practical" They show how things that were first used/created in the military have found their way down to civillian use and benefit everyone...kinda like the long hose and tech/rec.

Try and find out what and who developed the long hose and what kind of diving they were doing.

Does that mean only astronauts should drink Tang ???

I've always found there are many ways to learn. Trial and error - this can be bad concerning diving. Books or boards. Mentor. Then in this case we could all take a course in long hose configuration and deployment from PADI. I'm sure we would feel that we were qualified experts then. ;)

You are jumping to conclusions that are not in evidence.

With all due respect, having gotten about halfway through this thread now, there seems to be a lot of that going on from both "sides" of the debate.

FWIW - I teach Rescue class in a 7' hose ... to students with both Hog and standard rigs. And a lot of what I've read so far ... some from very experienced divers ... simply doesn't fit with my experiences.

Mebbe if some of y'all would tone down the rhetoric a bit, everyone might benefit from your perspectives ...
