Does anyone know for certain if it is legal in Australia to fill tanks purchased in the USA? I know the tank markings are different; DOT and imperial vs. metric.

Steel tanks are about twice the cost in Australia compared to US shops. One shop owner checked for me and found that even if he ordered lots of 50 tanks his cost would be $75 more than US retail. All these prices take in account currency conversions.

I would like to buy a few tanks on my next trip back to the states but I do not want to import scrap metal.

Its not just the tank markings that are different. I think the tank specs are slightly different considering tanks in australia are hydroed more often.
