Hey guys/gals,
I've been reading the US NAVY Diver Manual for perspective ( too much downtime at work ! ) and was wondering (not having access to the software myself ) if anyone has ever compared their deco tables to software such as V-planner, MPlan and others.

They use a strict timing sequence based on ascend rate of 30fsw per minute as oppose to algorithms allowing up to 60fsw per min!

where's the advantage in using the software, than using the tables themselves.

also, (ignorant question), but how do you get your plan printout laminated? aside from going to a print store!!!

thanks

The Navy Tables are MUCH more aggressive than V planner etc. IIRC correctly(going from memory here) the NDL at 100 feet on air is 25 minutes for the Navy Tables. With V-Planner (+2 conservatism) the profile is:
Dec to 100ft (2) Air 50ft/min descent.
Level 100ft 23:00 (25) Air 0.85 ppO2, 100ft ead
Asc to 40ft (27) Air -30ft/min ascent.
Stop at 40ft 1:00 (28) Air 0.46 ppO2, 40ft ead
Stop at 30ft 3:00 (31) Air 0.40 ppO2, 30ft ead
Stop at 20ft 5:00 (36) Air 0.34 ppO2, 20ft ead
Stop at 10ft 10:00 (46) Air 0.27 ppO2, 10ft ead
Surface (46) Air -30ft/min ascent.

So 25 minutes at 100 feet is just an NDL dive on the Navy tables but requires 19 minutes deco on a middling conservatism V planner profile !

Software programs are much more flexible, want to do 300 feet for 20 minutes on 10/60 with 32% travel gas and deco on 50% and 100% ? Easy to get a profile from V-planner. I would not know how to start planning that dive with Navy Tables

i haven't gotten that far on the manual.. darn thing is 998 pages..i'm on 480, but interesting to read the extended details! true on the air dives and deco times.

the next few chapters are going over blends and what not... but i'm sure the software simplifies calculations..

Either way, thank you for the feedback.

if anyone is interested, let me know and i'll send you the link to download the file.. be forwarned it's 25mg.. need high speed connection to download.
