Hi All,
I'm headed down the West Palm with the old lady in a couple weeks to visit some friends. We're planning on bringing the kayaks and dive gear to sneak off to the upper keys for a little kayak diving.
I have been trying to find some good spots for us to go, but not coming up with much. And was wondering if anyone could recommend a few sites to dive on.? Not your secret spots, but something fun.
Thanks so much for the help!

Trevor

You do realize the reefs in the Keys are 4+ miles from shore, don't you? That is a LONG PADDLE with a yak full of gear!!!

Thats what I keep seeing, and was wondering if there wasn't another option.? Should I be looking at a different area? Maybe something closer to West palm?

I just saw that in another post, any specific area or launch point, reef location?
Thanks for the responses, hoping to get some trip prep planning out of the way :)

A-1-A north of Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale is good.

Good question. I launch off a private beach so I am not certain about launch points. I imagine you could launch at any of the beach access areas but you would be limited to 2 hours because of metered parking. If you take Commercial Blvd East to El Mar Drive you can turn left or right on El Mar and you will see beach access points.
Hopefully another poster can verify launching a kayak from there.

I only know about the spot I previously posted. I do know that you cannot kayak dive from a lifeguarded beach.

yea, there's good areas in the ft. lauderdale area. lauderdale by the sea (commercial blvd. pier), then there's some other spots in dania beach. there are some posts in here that describe these places along with directions as well.

well, i think u're allowed to kayak dive from dania and there's a lifeguard there around meade street. he told me about the reefs himself lol but then again maybe it's just this lifeguarded beach because it has specific access to back your car in and drop off ur gear and stuff.
