I am trying to get together a group of divers interested in taking the GUE Fundamentals course sometime in the next couple of months. I was hoping for sometime in March or early April.

Since this would be a special class, inviting instructors to come to the quarry, it is absolutely essential that you are 100% committed to taking the class since instructor fees and class costs for the students will be depenedent upon this.

I am willing to do the majority of the legwork if we have enough people. I was hoping to get at least 6-8 people. If you think that you are interested, please PM me and we can try to work on getting something together.

If you have never heard of GUE-Fundamentals, or want further information, please see the GUE website at: http://gue.com/classroom/dirfund.shtml.

If you don't get the required number of divers, a shop here in Raleigh has held a DIR-F class the last 3 years and I suspect they will again this year. The water portions have been done in Rawlings. It is usually held sometime around June. PM me if you would like contact info for the shop.

Marc, have you talked to any instructors yet? When I set up my class last year MHK only needed a relatively smaller number (compared to the total enrollment) of people 100% committed before scheduling the class.

Drew,

I haven't contacted anyone at GUE yet since I didn't want to make unnecessary plans. I would like to have at least 4 people (3 including myself) definitely committed before I called them. This is so that I don't waste their time and telling them that there may be a class when there isn't, but it's also to help offset the cost of bringing them to Rawlings and putting them up for the weekend. The more people in the class, the less the cost will be for all of us.

But once I have 4 people that are definitely interested, I will call GUE. Unless you can offer from your experience how much it cost total to put them up in the hotel, airfare, fills, passes, etc. so that we can have a rough approximate number.

Just as an FYI, GUE will have you contact an instructor since GUE does not schedule our courses. There are a few that will travel to teach the classes (myself and Mike Kane have done a bit of this).
The class is now 3 FULL days, so plan accordingly...meaning in most cases, the students will need to take a Friday off work.
Good luck and if you think I can help answer any more questions, feel free to contact me.

I think it varies between instructors. For example, MHK travels quite a bit so he figured out basically how much it will cost him for hotel, airfare, etc and charges each student a flat "travel fee". Other instructors ask that you split their actual expenses. That's part of the reason it helps to talk with them early in the game.

FWIW, Brando (who just repiled here) was the other instructor in my class. He and Mike put together a great class and I wouldn't hesitate to take another from either of them.

Herman is correct, there will be one in Raleigh towards the end of June.
