What about the Oriskany History course as a topic? I think that it is a PADI approved class now. Very interesting stuff

I believe Rich is planning to offer something to club members. I hope to have something available at the next meeting about it, but it will not be at a regular club meeting due to the length of time. The plan is to have a group offering which Rich will teach at a agreed upon time and place at a great price. Again, I hope to have something in place by the Feb 3rd meeting about it!

When are we getting the CPR, AED, etc training in there? So much to do So little time!

Do you know of a subject matter expert who could share info, video, and history on the "O" who could talk for 30-45 minutes. Maybe we could do it in July in conjunction with a planned club dive to the "O"?

Jim at MBT is THE subject matter expert for the Oriskany. He is on SB as Evensplit. Maybe he would agree to do the class. You know they have multiple classrooms at MBT with video equipment and everything. Maybe we could have a meeting there and Jim would do the class?

Meetings will probably stay at the hotel for now and won't be at a dive shop not even Bay Breeze for several reasons which we won't get into on the forums. No offense to any other shops intended.
I have a gentleman that has written a book on the "O" and will call him to see if he will come and he actually served on her too.
As far as diving the "O" Rich probably has as much or more experience than anyone in the area and can come share about the diving portion and the prep for a boat trip to her.

THere is some discussion about switching March and May as Robert T. can not make the club meeting in May. So May would be Artifacts and Hunting with SOMEONE to present Artifacts from the area. We have a couple of people in mind one of course is Dr. Pomroy from UWF.

Some of us live on this side of Pensacola. It sure would be nice if we could move the meeting to other areas :eyebrow:

I'll be happy to give the Oriskany course at one of your meetings. The course usually runs about 45 minutes, but has gone as long as 2 hours with lots of questions.

Josh has turned the MBT Oriskany course into a bonafide PADI specialty course for anyone that wants to get a cert card out of it.

In a different but related matter:
I'm in the process of putting together the 2009 USS Oriskany reunion which will be here in Pensacola during October. There'll be lots of Oriskany vets around town that week, and the planned activities will include a visit to the ship - some of the Vets are active divers.
