LDS / n. A commercial establishment with people that are just friendly enough to make you feel a little guilty when you buy all your stuff on-line.
*Okay, that one's not nice-support your lds!

Henderson's Theory / n. Theorem that correlates the speed and ease of donning one's kit is directly related to how long it will take to get into the water or reach the dive site. i.e. on days that you slip into your suit and everything goes right on, you will invariably wait as the boats crew searches in vain for the mooring. Likewise, if you are having any difficulties at all with your kit, the dive site will be only 2 minutes away. (note, shore divers will effected by their dive buddies in a similar manner, if you are ready in record time, buddy will have forgotten to lock the car, misplaced an item back up at the staging area etc...).

Sherman (n): A diver who marches through the sea. [From "Sherman's march to the sea."]

Osprey (n): A diver characterized by swimming primarily in a semi-upright position just above the bottom, thereby creating a characteristic silt-cloud trail. [From V-22 Osprey]

Flounders(n.) New divers that thrash around on the surface, trying desperately to descend.

There must then be a name for their counterpart, the underweighted new diver who struggles to hold his safety stop without "corking" to the surface....
